A series of five, one day intensive courses, designed to teach the basic commercial skills needed each day by the working florist. The course content is based upon my own retail and teaching experience and concentrates on the most popular items as well as providing essential training in core floristry skills. The courses are suitable for absolute beginners or for those with some knowledge of the subject wishing to brush up their ability – maybe before returning to the industry after a break.
Each one day course includes 8 hours of intensive tuition in groups of no more than 4 students. Everything is provided and you can expect to take home up to 5 completed designs. YOU will be making the designs – the courses are very ‘hands on’ enabling you to learn quickly.
Bring a camera to photograph your pieces and to take pictures of my demonstration if you require.
All courses are held in my workshop in Leeds, just off the M1 and M62 motorways. I am very easy to find.
The atmosphere is very informal and friendly –though expect to work very hard indeed. Comfy shoes recommended!
Of course you need to practice at home or in your shop in order to reach a high level of competence, but with the detailed training guides provided, this should present no problem.
The guides give lots of basic information appropriate to each sector of the industry and cover costing and other essential subjects. They also include step by step ‘how to do it guides’ for each of the pieces practiced on the course.
Former students, now in the industry, have told me that they have found the training guides invaluable in their businesses and are still using them.
In addition to completing the floral designs, students on the courses have every opportunity to talk to me and ask questions about retail floristry and the industry in general. In 28 years I have learned a lot, sometimes the hard way, and now I feel it is my turn to pass some of this knowledge onto you, so you won’t have to struggle as I did, with some of the day to day problems. If I can help – I will.
Each course comes with a certificate of participation showing my name and qualifications and signed by me. Though these are not recognised courses, (i.e. they are not an NVQ or NCPF course) the certificate evidences that you have completed several hours of intensive training with a highly qualified and experienced florist (You will also have your photographs of your work to back this up).
By the way – the courses are also FUN!!
